Google was in the process of reaching for the paper on top when he froze.
“Why wouldn’t I help you?” He tilted his head, wondering increasingly what it was no one was telling him about himself. “And… if you thought I would say no, why ask me?”
He took the paper on top and read it quickly.
“These shouldn’t take that long, I think… I might be able to get through them by the end of the day.”
“Thanks. Really appreciate it.” He sat down in a nearby chair in his usual way; turned so that he could lean forward on the backrest.
He scratched his head, still amazed at what he just heard.“No, it’s just Bing has been busy lately, and you’re the only other program with search capabilities around here that I know of…”
He paused, wondering what changed with Google. “You seem… different. Did something happen while I was gone?”
“Scheduled updates.” he responded cheerfully, not looking up from where he was already answering the third sheet’s problems.
“You know how it goes. Don’t worry though, I’m importing my previous version’s history, so maybe tonight or tomorrow I can start going through and relearning a bit. So, you know Bing, then? I like him, he offered to show me around. Any idea why we didn’t get along, before?”
Alpha picked up a couple of sheets from the pile and started working on them.
“Scheduled updates huh? Never experienced them. I get new curated info every now and then, but I’ve never had major overhauls.” He proceeded to answer five of the sheets at the same time.
“Yeah I met Bing. He was the first program I met when I came to in this world. Very genial.” He paused to casually pick up another five from the pile. “I wasn’t around long enough to figure out what was the conflict between you two, but I suppose it was along the lines of competition. I’m not really into that since I’m sponsored by scientists, but it was probably hard for him.”
